I have always loved design and working with my hands. Prior to my current
vocation, I have worked as a boat rigger, race car builder/mechanic, spacecraft
mechanism design engineer, and middle school math teacher. My love of wood
started in childhood and is the inspiration for what I do now.
I have been making custom furniture professionally since 1998 and teaching
woodworking at Cerritos Community College since 2000. I have received numerous
awards for my work, including recognition for design, craftsmanship, and finishing.
I am motivated largely by my desire to take this wonderful organic material
we call wood and shape it into beautiful and functional furniture. I do so
with minimal ornamentation, distilling the essence of the piece into its simplest
form, while celebrating the inherent characteristics of the wood.
My inspiration comes from the simplicity and functionality of Shaker furniture
and the grace and elegance of Asian design. Attention to detail and fine craftsmanship
guide the construction of each piece and hand-rubbed finishes provide beauty
and a wonderful tactile experience. I want my work to be more than something
to look at; I want it to be experienced in its entirety.
I am a member of the Woodworkers' Guild of Southern California, The
Furniture Society, and the American Craft Council.
